The school operates a full boarding school because we want to develop the reading skills and capacity of the student. SBHS has created a conducive environment through the provision of state -of -the -art facilities that will help the student to study hard by devoting quality time and attention to study. The problem many students encounter in recent time is the distraction caused by many external factors that prevent them from focusing on their studies. All these factors of distraction are eliminated by the close supervision of the students through qualified house master and house mistresses. The compulsory prep time which is devoted to uninterrupted studies helps our students develop the skills and discipline of private study hour which is clearly missing amongst the students of today.
Students are well fed and well looked after. The school has qualified chefs that cooks for students and teachers daily. Meals are served at the dinning hall where students and teachers all eat together affording an opportunity to educate students on proper table manners and dinning etiquette.
Yes, there are adequate and round -the -clock security made up of armed Police Guards, Police Patrol vehicles and undercover surveillance team. The school has a sick bay to attend to minor health issues by trained care givers. However, serious and emergency cases are taken to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital Calabar or the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). Both Hospitals have a working arrangement with the school and all serious medical cases are referred to either of the hospital which are both within a few minutes’ drive from the school. When students are treated in the hospital, the cost of treatment is paid by the school and the bill sent to parents at the end of the term for a refund back to the school. In very few and exceptional cases where the student will require long medical attention, parents are contacted and advised to take the student home for proper health management to help the child recover faster.
The Southern British High School is a government approved secondary school, accredited by the Cross River state government to operate the authorised school syllabus. In addition to the above, the school is also working in collaboration with the British council to align with contemporary British educational standards using limited academic materials sourced from the United Kingdom educational system. This is intended to prepare students for National and International examination at the appropriate time.
